Who are Bruford Crew?
Student Ambassadors at Rose Bruford College are called Bruford Crew. They give an insight in to what Rose Bruford College has to offer first-hand by sharing their knowledge and experience of university life so far and in doing so have the opportunity to encourage people from all social and cultural backgrounds to enter Higher Education.
What skills do I need to join Bruford Crew?
We are looking for students who are reliable, enthusiastic and confident communicators from both the School of Design, Management & Technical Arts and the School of Performance who will represent and promote the College through a plethora of opportunities as outlined on the job description.
Are there specialist roles?
You can indicate on your application form if you are interested in a specialist role as a social media ambassador or outreach ambassador and submit any additional information required.
Outreach Ambassadors will work specifically with the Outreach Department engaging with disadvantaged people (first generation to enter higher education, low household income under £29.4k, low participation neighbourhoods) and those from under-represented backgrounds (BAME, Disabled, Mature, Care Leaver) who subsequently face various barriers to accessing higher education. We are really interested in working with ambassadors who have a story to tell and whose journey to Rose Bruford took a few detours along the way – you may have faced some sort of injustice, financial concerns, lack of support or started off on a very different career path.
It is anticipated that you will have the opportunity to undertake further training during your time as an outreach ambassador.
Please register your interest as an outreach ambassador on the application form, if you are successful at the selection session, you will be asked to submit a 1 minute video outlining why you would make a great outreach ambassador.
You should familiarise yourself with the College’s Access & Participation Plan found in the resources below.
Social Media Ambassador: We are looking to recruit a small pool of Social Media Ambassadors to work closely with the Student Recruitment and External Affairs Department to ensure the student voice has a strong presence on our social media channels.
The role will involve covering all aspects of student life across several platforms, and will involve a set number hours each month which you can work ad-hoc around your studies. We have 5 roles available and would like a mixture of student perspectives from different courses, levels of study and backgrounds. You will receive training on social media planning, digital content generation, and engagement monitoring, and we hope that you will grow in this role and develop lots of transferable skills. Please note, your main remit will not be to cover course specific content, but more to show life at the college as a whole, although course content may naturally feature heavily in your content. Please indicate your interest in your application form!
Will I get paid?
Yes you will! The agreed fee for Bruford Crew team member is £12:08 per hour.
Do I need a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check?
It depends on the project, and you would be told in advance.
When do you start recruiting?
This academic year (2020/21) we are recruiting current level 5 & 6 students in the autumn term.
We want to give level 4 students some time to settle in and will open the recruitment process to you in the summer term. The Outreach Manager will arrange with your subject leaders and programme directors to speak to each of your cohorts in 2021.
